How the picker thinks: first the chapter, because you cannot use what you have not found; then your defensive rhythm — parry, evade or stand and trade; then the thing actually blocking you. A boss wall, a shield wall, a puppet wall and a mob wall all have different answers. The famous "wheelchair" weapons fail outright in the wrong room: the Horse-Cleaver is just a sword in a puppet zone.
Why you always carry two: swapping refills Sha-Chi
Combat is built around two Sha-Chi bars. Yours regenerates over time; the enemy's never does, and once it is empty they cannot answer red or blue attacks at all. The core loop is: pressure with Sha-Chi combos, run dry, swap weapons to refill, pressure again.
- Swapping instantly refills your Sha-Chi. This matters more than any individual weapon's numbers.
- Keep the off-hand fast. Hei Shang Twin Blades, White Python and Demon Saw rebuild Sha-Chi in a couple of swings.
- Lingering effects survive the swap. Spider lilies, the oriole mark and corruption keep ticking after you switch, which makes those weapons better in the off-hand than as a main.
- Rush the talent that turns weapon-swapping into a skill. It changes how the whole kit feels.

Weapons that disappear with their region
FAQ
Just tell me the single best weapon.
There isn't one. If you want the most forgiving, it is the Outlaw's Horse-Cleaver — lifesteal, high poise damage, huge margin for error, and it walks through normal enemies and most bosses. It does nothing to puppets, gilded or phantom enemies, so the Village of Lu forces a swap.
Why does the Horse-Cleaver stop working in the Village of Lu?
Puppet enemies are immune to bleed and lifesteal. That is a mechanic counter, not bad play. Switch to Crimson Ghost Slash, Pojun or the Chaotic Oriole Sword, or equip the charm that restores lifesteal against puppets.
I am scared to waste upgrade materials.
Do not be. Upgrades roll back and refund everything: free below level 10, one Blade Reversal Talisman from 10, two after 20. A first run only funds about one main weapon, so park the off-hand near level 19 until the build settles.
Is higher damage always better?
No. Late-game weapons naturally have bigger numbers, but the real gap is mechanical: can it drain Sha-Chi, can it break guards, does its status effect work on puppets. Damage is only the floor.

- Stuck on a boss? Re-run the picker first — sometimes the problem is the weapon, not your hands.
- Entering a new chapter? Check the table for what just unlocked and whether it beats what you carry.
- Worried about missing quests and weapons? Keep the missables checklist open and clear it before every red line.
